National AFL-CIO - The mission of the AFL-CIO is to improve the lives of working families--to bring economic justice to the workplace and social justice to our nation. To accomplish this mission we will build and change the American labor movement.

Building and Construction Trades Dept.- Represents over 3 million construction workers who belong to the 15 affiliated international and national Building Trades unions. This web site was established to help you understand and interact in their mission.

Food and Allied Service Trades Dept.- The principal reason they have launched this website is to make available to you their new "Manual of Corporate Investigation: Building Profiles of Public and Private Companies." While they sell printed copies, the best way to continually bring important new sources of useful corporate information is the website version of the Manual.

Transportation Trades Department - founded in April 1990, is an umbrella organization of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO). TTD represents the interests of several million aviation, rail, transit, trucking, highway and longshore workers before Congress, the Executive Branch and independent government agencies. Through TTD, the working men and women who are represented by the Department's 30 affiliated unions have a strong, united voice in Washington, DC.

American Labor Studies Center - The American Labor Studies Center is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization whose mission is to collect, analyze, evaluate, create and disseminate labor history and labor studies curricula and related materials, aligned to the various state and national standards, to kindergarten through 12th grade teachers nationwide. They will include such areas as the history, organization, activities, and issues affecting the labor movement

A. Philip Randolph Institute - APRI's mission, from our founding to the present, has been to fight for racial equality and economic justice. Our role is unique we work with black trade unionists, the people best suited to serve as a bridge between labor and the black community.

Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance - The Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, AFL-CIO, is the first national organization of Asian Pacific American union members and their supporters, and continues the long and proud tradition of Asian Pacific American workers fighting for justice. This tradition reaches back over 100 years to the 19th century strikes on the sugar plantations of Hawaii and the bitter struggles for decent wages and working conditions on the railroads, in the fields, and in the emerging cities of the western United States.

Coalition of Labor Union Women - The primary purpose of this National Coalition is to unify all union women in a viable organization to determine our common problems and concerns and to develop action programs within the framework of our unions to deal effectively with our objectives. This struggle goes beyond the borders of this Nation and they urge the working sisters throughout the world to join them in accomplishing these objectives through their labor organizations.

Jewish Labor Committee - The Jewish Labor Committee is an independent secular organization that helps the Jewish community and the trade union movement work together on important issues of shared interest and concern. It is the Jewish voice in the labor movement and the voice of the labor movement in the Jewish community.

Labor Research Association - Since 1927, the Labor Research Association has been providing cutting- edge economic and political analysis for trade unions through its publications and studies. LRA's mission remains the same as it was when it was founded: to provide economic and strategic assistance to working people and their unions in the contest with employers over their wages, working conditions and rights on the job, and with governments over the budgets, laws and regulations that affect their lives.

Pride At Work
In 1999, Pride At Work became an official constituency group of the AFL-CIO (American Federation of Labor & Congress of Industrial Organizations). The purpose of Pride At Work is to mobilize mutual support between the organized Labor Movement and the LGBT Community around organizing for social and economic justice. We see full equality for LGBT Workers in their workplaces and unions. We work towards creating a Labor Movement that cherishes diversity, encourages openness, and ensures safety & dignity.

Ethically Speaking...Introducing a new monthly segment written by Chalmers Clark, PhD, focusing on ethical considerations in conversations about our work and positive values that organized labor strengthens in American society.

In our last issue of Ethically Speaking... we took the doctrine of employment-at-will (EAW) and put it under the ethical lens of justice.  We then brought the concept down to its roots in everyday notions such as 'fairness' and 'even handed treatment' or 'an even playing field'. (full story)
