New York State AFL-CIO Mourns the Passing of Labor and Civil Rights Trailblazer Dr. Annie B Martin
The labor and civil rights movements lost one of their finest leaders when Dr. Annie B. Martin passed away earlier this week.
“Dr. Martin touched the lives of countless working men and women throughout our state and our country,” said Mario Cilento, New York State AFL-CIO President. “With integrity and grace, she worked to give a voice to the voiceless, and paved the way for future generations of women activists in the labor and civil rights movements.”
Dr. Annie B. Martin’s passion and commitment to social justice was evident to all. She served selflessly in leadership roles at the NAACP, New York City Central Labor Council, the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, and the Coalition of Labor Union Women. Dr. Martin also served as an Assistant Commissioner of Labor and as Secretary-Treasurer of Local 8-138 Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union.
