ON SENATE LABOR AGENDA 5/1/17
PROTECT NEW YORK JOBS
S1804 Kennedy/A2170 Peoples-Stokes
The New York State AFL-CIO, representing 2.5 million union workers and their families as well as our retirees and their families supports the above referenced legislation.
This bill requires employers to provide for 120 day notice to Department of Labor before call center services could be relocated to a foreign nation. This bill will combat outsourcing of call center jobs.
Shipping good paying jobs that also provide health and other benefits out of state is detrimental to the viability of the communities. This bill will also serve to improve service and timely response for consumers. Finally, this bill also creates an appropriate tracking and oversight process to ensure the intent of the law is followed and would make companies that violate the law ineligible for various government grants, loans and tax benefits.
Therefore, this Federation urges immediate passage of this legislation.
