New York State AFL-CIO Endorses James, DiNapoli and Benjamin

Albany, NY - The New York State AFL-CIO Executive Council voted to endorse Attorney General Letitia “Tish” James, State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli and Lt. Governor Brian Benjamin.
A.G. James -
“Attorney General Tish James understands the value of the union movement, having been a union member herself,” said Mario Cilento, president of the New York State AFL-CIO.
“She is a proven champion for worker rights and protections. She has never shied away from standing up for striking workers, supporting union organizing drives and fighting for workers wrongfully terminated.”
Attorney General Letitia James said, “The working people of New York have served our state honorably as times have tested our resolve. I am inspired every day by their dedication, tenacity, and strength. As Attorney General, I have been proud to stand up for workers by taking on wage theft and ensuring that employers abide by labor laws. I am honored to have the support of the New York State AFL-CIO and its 2.5 million members and I am committed to continuing to work together to protect and expand the rights of unions and working Americans everywhere.”
Comptroller DiNapoli -
“Tom DiNapoli has consistently acted in the best interest of working people as Comptroller. He is an excellent steward of the common retirement fund for public employees and has repeatedly used his leverage as a shareholder to advocate for positive labor relations and worker rights. Tom is a true supporter of the union movement,” Cilento said.
New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli said, “I am confident New York will recover from the pandemic because of our strong labor movement, which is why I’m so honored to receive the endorsement of the New York State AFL-CIO. We are only as strong as our unions and I pledge to continue working in partnership with the state federation on behalf of the 2.5 million AFL-CIO members.”
Lt. Gov Benjamin -
“Earlier this week our Executive Council voted to endorse Kathy Hochul for Governor and today we are announcing we are also endorsing Lt. Governor Brian Benjamin,” said Cilento. “Brian understands the needs of working people. We know he will fight hard for workers and will make the administration stronger as we continue to rebuild our great state.”
Lt. Governor Brian Benjamin said, "I am truly honored to earn the support of The New York State AFL-CIO and their 2.5 million members. My family's trajectory was fundamentally changed because my parents were able to get good union jobs as a part of the NY AFL-CIO, so I know what unions do for New Yorkers. I look forward to working together to further cement New York as a model for organized labor and worker rights for years to come."
“The New York State AFL-CIO looks forward to coordinating with our affiliates to educate our members statewide on all of these candidates to ensure they are victorious in the upcoming election,” Cilento added.
