New York State AFL-CIO Announces the Endorsement of Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Endorsements In Congressional Races
For Immediate Release: Tuesday, August 21, 2018
Manhattan, NY – Today the 2.5 million member New York State AFL-CIO announced the endorsement of United States Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in her bid for re-election as well as endorsements of candidates running for Congress in New York State.
The endorsements took place at the state federation’s 2018 Committee on Political Education (COPE) Convention at the Sheraton NY Times Square Hotel in New York City. More than 1,000 delegates, representing union members from the public sector, private sector and building trades, were in attendance.
New York State AFL-CIO President Mario Cilento said, “We proudly support candidates who are committed to fighting hard on issues important to working people. Kirsten Gillibrand has been a true champion for the middle class. She continues to fight to raise the minimum wage and introduced the FAMILY Act to create a national paid family leave program for all workers in this country. She was also instrumental in ensuring 9/11 responders and survivors sickened as a result of the toxins at Ground Zero have access to health care and compensation.”
"I am honored to have the support of the New York State AFL-CIO and its affiliated unions representing millions of union workers across our state," said U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. "Even in the face of so many attacks, our unions are leading the fight to reward work again in this country. I am committed to standing with you in your efforts to achieve social and economic justice not just for the many public and private sector workers in the union, but for all working people. Together, we can fight for an economy and government that works better for all working people."
The New York State AFL-CIO is coordinating a grassroots campaign to educate our members and ensure they get to the polls and support all our endorsed candidates.
