President's Message

Memorial Day: Honoring Our Heroes

On Memorial Day, we remember the brave individuals of the armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice. As we enjoy this long weekend with friends and family, let us pause to honor the servicemembers who, in their fight for our freedom, never returned home.

The union movement is committed to advocating for the families of servicemembers to ensure that they receive the benefits and support they deserve. As so many military families face hardships, we must push for increased funding and resources for programs at the federal, state, and local levels to support them.

We also fight for veterans who return home and face challenges in accessing quality healthcare, mental health services, housing, job training, education, retirement benefits, and other vital programs. Our veterans should be entitled to support for a dignified transition back to civilian life.

The New York State AFL-CIO is committed to helping build a more supportive society for those who have served and for their families.
