Statement of New York State AFL-CIO President Mario Cilento on 25th Anniversary of September 11, 2001

A quarter of a century has passed since the horrific terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

On that day, 2,977 people were killed, yet 25 years later, families are still losing loved ones. Thousands of first responders, rescue, recovery, and relief workers, many of them union members, have died from 9/11 related illnesses.

On this 25th anniversary, they will be honored and recognized with an additional moment of silence added to the annual commemoration ceremony. 

We will never forget their sacrifice, and we will never give up the fight to ensure they will always get the care they deserve. Together, we bow our heads in remembrance of all those we’ve lost.
