Labor Continues to Grow in New York State
“The Labor Movement has a long and proud history in New York State, and that strength continues today," said New York State AFL-CIO President Mario Cilento. “I'm pleased the latest numbers indicate our Movement is growing.”
According to the latest report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, New York remains the most unionized state in the country, with 24.7 percent of the workforce belonging to a union, and in fact saw a slight increase in union membership. “We are proud to add nearly 60,000 new members to the Labor Movement providing even more dedicated working people with good, solid, middle class jobs and an opportunity for a better life,” added Cilento. “The Labor Movement provides the best way for working people to get ahead; particularly at a time when our economy is so out of balance. We remain committed to fighting for all working people to help grow the middle class,” said Cilento.
