Manhattan - Today, the 2.5 million member New York State AFL-CIO announced the endorsement of United States Senator Charles E. Schumer in his bid for re-election. The endorsement took place at the State Federation's 33rd Constitutional Convention at the Sheraton NY Times Square Hotel in New York City. More than one thousand delegates, representing union members from the public sector, private sector and building trades, were in attendance. New York State AFL-CIO President Mario Cilento, said, “Chuck Schumer has been a tireless advocate for working men and women. He has demonstrated time and again, through actions and deeds that he is a true friend to the Labor Movement and a champion for the middle class. Chuck worked hard to secure critical funding after Hurricane Sandy, led the way on the 9/11 Zadroga Health Bill, fought for infrastructure funding and helped save countless jobs among other issues important to working people." "Nothing makes me more proud -- or inspires me to work harder -- than receiving the endorsement of the New York State AFL-CIO, because it is the collective voice of millions of working women and men in our great state. I am utterly committed to rebuilding and expanding the American middle class and I know that there is no institution in American history more integral to this effort than the Labor Movement. From strengthening the NLRB, to making sure we are not ripped off by unfair trade deals, to investing in our infrastructure, to winning laws that protect the right to organize and collectively bargain -- I will be there with you, shoulder-to-shoulder. Thank you to the rank and filers everywhere; thank you to the Executive Board; and thank you to your wonderful President, my friend and partner in the quest for economic fairness and social progress, Mario Cilento," said Senator Chuck Schumer. The New York State AFL-CIO is coordinating a grassroots campaign to educate our members and ensure they get to the polls and support Chuck Schumer and make him the next majority leader of the U. S. Senate. Senator Schumer's remarks to delegates can be viewed here.
