Albany - The New York State AFL-CIO submitted testimony today to the New York State Department of Labor on the subminimum wage. The Federation is calling on the state to end minimum wage tip credits and instead, require employers to pay one fair wage.

“Too many service industry workers have been taken advantage of for far too long,” said Mario Cilento, president of the NYS AFL-CIO.

“The tip wage credit not only prevents workers from anticipating their earnings or budgeting to support their families, it opens up workers to exploitation, including harassment or abuse, by customers and managers.

“We applaud Governor Cuomo and Labor Commissioner Reardon for addressing this important issue of wage fairness,” Cilento said.
