The New York State AFL-CIO hosted a series of 10 focus groups with our Area Labor Federations/Central Labor Councils across the state from April 2018 - June 2018. The purpose was to help develop messaging that better connects with both our affiliates’ membership and the general public. The impetus of these discussions was in part a response to the 2016 elections, but also part of a broader conversation predating the elections dealing with challenges such as Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association, and now Janus v. AFSCME.
